Help for Methamphetamine Addiction
Methamphetamine use can become difficult to control and can affect many areas of a person's life, including relationships, work, physical health, mental health and overall wellbeing.
One of the distinguishing features of the Metrix approach is that treatment takes place alongside everyday life. Rather than removing someone from their usual environment for a period of residential rehabilitation, treatment takes place while participants continue to manage their everyday lives.
We believe that learning to manage recovery in the "real world" is an important part of treatment. Participants have the opportunity to practise new skills and strategies in the situations where they will ultimately need them.
The program combines group treatment, individual check-ins, education, self-directed work and support for family and significant others.
What Treatment Can Address
Treatment for methamphetamine addiction can involve understanding and addressing:
Triggers and cravings
Patterns of methamphetamine use
Automatic thoughts and behaviours
Managing stress and difficult emotions
Relationships and support systems
Lifestyle and behavioural changes
Maintaining an abstinence-based lifestyle
Planning for high-risk situations
Preventing relapse
Developing healthier ways of coping
The aim is not simply to stop using methamphetamine. It is to develop the knowledge, skills and strategies needed to maintain recovery over time.
Start Your Recovery
Participants have the opportunity to apply what they learn while managing their normal responsibilities and relationships.
Recovery in the Real World
Metrix encourages the involvement of family members and support people in the recovery process. Education and support can help those closest to the person in recovery develop ways of supporting lasting change.
Support for Families & Friends
We focus on helping participants understand their own patterns of substance use and develop practical strategies for responding differently.
Everyone is Different
We are upfront about the commitment required. Recovery involves regular participation, completing work between sessions and being prepared to make meaningful changes.
